The 35th Chess Olympiad took place from October 25th to November 11th, 2002, in Bled, (Slovenia). In the men's tournament there were 136 teams, and in the women's, 92 teams. The arbiter was IA Geurt Gijssen (NED).
The tournament was paired by the Swiss system over 14 rounds.

The Nona Gaprindashvili Trophy is awarded to the entity the average place of finish of which in the open and women's division is the best (where two or more teams are tied, they are ordered by single-best finish in either division and then by total points scored); with an average finish of one-and-one-half, Russia won the 2002 trophy.
